Emmitt Smith: Aikman Could Be a Great GM

Many fans would like to see Troy Aikman join the Cowboys' front office a la John Elway in Denver

Inspired by John Elway’s work with the Broncos, many fans have fantasized about the possibility of Troy Aikman joining the Dallas Cowboys’ front office. This will probably never happen, for obvious reasons. He already has a job--as a gameday analyst with FOX--and he’s great at it. Then there’s the undeniable fact that Jones has never been a fan of ceding power to anyone.

But in a parallel universe where Jones would be willing to, maybe, bring Aikman in as general manager, Aikman’s old teammate Emmitt Smith believes he could be pretty good at it.

I guess people want to see Troy in the front office like they see John Elway in the front office,” Smith said, per the Dallas Morning News. “At the end of the day, I’d like to see myself in a front office. But at the end of the day, I think Troy understands talent, I think he understands business. He might make a great GM. I’m not sure that he wants that role because he’s doing such a great job with FOX. I think he’s one of the better announcers out there. I think what they’re doing with him and Joe Buck is tremendous. That’s why he is an A-guy. You never know. It would be interesting to see, though.”
