ESPN Draftnik Gives Cowboys Bosa in Latest Mock Draft

Now we’re talking.

Enough of this flawed fawning over a quarterback or a running back, what the Cowboys desperately need is defensive help. And at least one draftnik predicts they’re going to get it.

In his third mock draft, ESPN’s Todd McShay has the Cowboys selecting Ohio State pass rusher Joey Bosa with the 4th overall pick.

I’ll take it.

Of course, McShay – like a lot of NFL teams – has an annoying habit of changing his mind this time of year. In his first two mock drafts, he predicted Dallas would take Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith and then North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz.

Maybe McShay is merely hedging his bets. Make enough different picks, obviously, and you’re sure to get it right eventually.

Or maybe McShay shares my opinion that the Cowboys’ biggest hole to fill is on the defensive line.

Greg Hardy is likely gone. Randy Gregory will be suspended for the first four games. DeMarcus Lawrence is coming off back surgery. And Jeremy Mincey and Jack Crawford are free agents. When healthy last season, that group wasn’t productive anyway.

Bosa was a beast at Ohio State. Despite only five sacks last season, he was a constant disruptive force. Some people were alarmed and disappointed by his 4.8 40-yard dash at the combine. But, c’mon, how many times during an NFL game is a defensive end required to sprint 40 yards?

The Cowboys let DeMarcus Ware leave. Then they swung and missed on Hardy. Time to forget spectacular, and go with the solid pick at the most needed position.

Here’s hoping McShay is right, and next month Bosa is a Cowboy.
