Demarcus Lawrence Feeling Optimistic

Lawrence was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round out of Boise State

There is still no target date for second round pick Demarcus Lawrence’s return from a fractured right foot, but the Boise State product is staying optimistic.

“Knowing that I’m coming back soon, maybe in the next month or two, keeps my head high,” said Lawrence, who flew back to Dallas to undergo surgery after suffering the injury, per the team’s website. “I’ll be back.”

The Cowboys are obviously high on Lawrence. They traded up in the second round to select him, giving up their third round selection in the process, and he was beginning to get work with the first team when he was hurt in a one-on-one drill against Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith.

Between now and whenever he does return, Lawrence plans on doing all he can to not fall too far behind.

“It set me back a little physically, not being out there with the team,” Lawrence said. “I know I’m going to have to be into my playbook and the weight room now. On the mental side, being into the playbook and learning all the plays and making sure I’m up to date so when I come back I have no problems.”
