As a high school kid growing up in DeSoto, TX, Von Miller idolized then-Dallas Cowboys pass rusher DeMarcus Ware. On Sunday night, he won a Super Bowl with him, and Miller, not the veteran Ware was named Most Valuable Player.
To be sure, it was a well-earned honor. Miller finished with six tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. His two strip-sacks of Cam Newton led directly to 14 points for the Broncos, this on a night that they won 24-10. But afterward, Miller made clear that MVP award was just the icing on the cake—the Super Bowl win is the cake.
"If I could cut this award, I would give it to DeMarcus [Ware] and [Derek] Wolfe and all the other guys," Miller said, per Paul Gutierrez of ESPN. "That's what I would do. This is all great and stuff, but for me, I want to be with my guys. I would take the ring.
“The MVP is great, but I'll take the ring. I want to go in there with my teammates."
