DeMarcus Ware to Retire as a Dallas Cowboy

DeMarcus Ware will retire as a Dallas Cowboy.

The former Cowboys pass rusher and franchise leader in career sacks with 117 announced Monday morning at The Star in Frisco that he would sign with the team and retire.

"I want to thank this organization for bringing be back home," he said. "It really means something to me."

Ware spoke alongside Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett at a pre-draft news conference Monday.

"He not only improved, he made everyone on our team improve," said Jones.

"We've been spending a lot of time in the draft, about what we're looking for, this is what we're looking for," Garrett said, as he patted the table in front of Ware. "This is a rare guy, and what you have to realize is, he's a once in a generation-type player."

Dallas drafted Ware in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Troy. He played with the team until they did not tender him a free agent contract before the 2014 season.

Ware spent the next three seasons with the Denver Broncos, where he won a Super Bowl after the 2015 season.
