DeMarco Murray Says He Can Handle 300 Carries

Murray had a career-high 217 carries in 2013

Thanks to several factors including his health and Dallas’s spotty-at-best level of commitment to running the ball, Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray has never so much as approached 300 carries in a season. He set a career high with 217 carries last year, his best in the NFL so far.

But Murray believes he can shoulder the 300-carry load, if the Cowboys follow through on Scott Linehan’s statement that they’d lean on the University of Oklahoma product.

"If they decide to do that with me, of course," Murray said, via FOX Sports. "Whatever they decide to do with me, I think I can handle it."

Murray played in a career-high 14 games in 2013--he missed two games due to a knee injury--posted 1,121 yards and nine touchdowns, and was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time. He comes into camp this year healthy and, he says, a wiser running back than he was earlier in his career.

"You just have to take care of your body and know when to go and fight for that extra yard or inch and know when not to," Murray said. "That's something about just being a smarter football player in general and knowing when you're helping your team and when you're hurting your team."
