Danny Coale Used To Wes Welker Comparisons

Coale was selected by Dallas in the fifth round of the draft

Dallas Cowboys’ fifth round pick Danny Coale is used to being compared to the New England Patriots’ Wes Welker, and Cowboys’ fans can only hope that this comparison holds true when Coale suits up.

For now, we’re guessing the comparison is based on the fact that they’re both fast, undersized slot receivers--Coale is listed at 5-foot-11, while Welker is listed at 5-foot-9--who happen to be white. There’s the fact that they both went to a school with a “Tech” in the name (Texas Tech for Welker, Virginia Tech for Coale), too, but that might be stretching the similarities a bit.

Of course, this isn’t to say Coale doesn’t like the comparison.

"I get it frequently, which is, it’s a tremendous honor to get compared to someone like that,” Coale said, per ESPN Dallas. “He does things that, if I have a fraction of the success that he’s had I would call it a success. I think we’re similar and I think we’re different, but it’s really nice to get those comparisons."
