Cruz Absent From NYG Workouts

Restricted free agent Victor Cruz is hoping to land a long-term deal with the Giants

Just like every other team in the NFL that doesn’t have a new head coach in town (those guys get to start early), the New York Giants kicked off their voluntary offseason workout program on Monday. Restricted free agent receiver Victor Cruz, who is hoping to land a long-term deal with New York this offseason, was conspicuously absent.

It doesn’t seem like there’s any bad blood between the two sides. Cruz has worked out with Eli Manning several times this offseason and has been vocal in his desire to remain a Giant for the long-haul.

But he doesn’t seem too keen on signing his tender offer, and perhaps thought that staying away from team workouts would send the New York brass a message. Defensive end Justin Tuck, meanwhile, said last week that he’d be disappointed if Cruz didn’t show up as a show of “good faith.”

Apparently for Cruz though, looking out for his professional future takes precedence over keeping Tuck from being disappointed--and it’s hard to blame him for that.
