Crawford Done for Season With Torn Achilles

Tyrone Crawford suffered a torn Achilles on the first day of camp

Cowboys defensive end made through about an hour in the team’s first training camp workout before he went down and had to be carted off the field, and after being looked at by team doctors, the news is not good. Crawford suffered a torn Achilles, and will miss the 2013 season.

This is the same injury that ended safety Barry Church’s season in Week 3 of last year.

It’s disappointing because Crawford is probably our top young defensive lineman,” said executive vice president Stephen Jones, per the Dallas Morning News. “That’s a shame. But knowing him, he’s such a diligent worker, he’ll get right on it, and he’ll be back. Look at Barry Church, he’s running around out there. They come back from this. No doubt in my mind he’ll be back quickly.”

Crawford, who appeared in all 16 games as a rookie in 2011, figured to be a key reserve in Monte Kiffin’s 4-3 this season.

“That guy is something special,” defensive tackle Jason Hatcher said of Crawford. “It’s tough to see a guy like that going down. He was on the rise. But it’s not the end of the road. He has a long ways to go. He’s going to be one of the great ones. He has potential to be a Hall of Famer.”
