Cowboys Vets Meet With Dez Over Dinner

The last few months have been marked by controversy for Cowboys’ receiver Dez Bryant, and concern over Bryant for many people around the organization, who worry that Bryant will stray from the right path as the lockout keeps him from the usual structure of the summer in the NFL.

Bryant’s offseason began with a dust-up involving sagging pants and an off-duty police officer at the Northpark Center Mall in Dallas, which drew a good amount of publicity before being quashed by an official statement by a Northpark spokesman, welcoming Bryant back to the mall whenever he’d please; shortly after that, two lawsuits were filed against Bryant, claiming he owed over $850,000 for unpaid jewelry, loans and sporting event tickets. One of these has since been settled.

In the wake of this string of controversy, many of the team’s veterans said they would reach out to the highly talented young receiver, an idea that materialized this weekend--as Tony Romo, Keith Brooking, Andre Gurode and, for some reason, Romo’s brother-in-law to be/star of “Gossip Girl,” Chace Crawford, met with Bryant this weekend over a meal. Afterward, Bryant Tweeted about the get-together, writing on Twitter (all sic):

“Just finished eating with chase crawford,Tony romo Keith and Aundre gurode...had a good time”
