Cowboys To Work Out RB/Return Man LaMichael James

James was a second round pick of the San Francisco 49ers three years ago

Down a running back following the loss of Lance Dunbar two weeks ago, the Dallas Cowboys will work out free agent running back LaMichael James later this week, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

A Texarkana native, James was drafted by the 49ers in the second round of the 2012 Draft after breaking the all-time rushing record at the University of Oregon--where he remains the all-time leading rusher. His impact in the NFL thus far has been less record-breaking.

In two years and change with the 49ers, James played in 15 games and ran for 184 yards. He added nine yards to his career total last year in a couple of games with the Dolphins, but Miami cut ties with him in September.

As Moore points out, it’s likely that the Cowboys are looking at him as a return option.

As a return man, James has 792 yards on 28 career kick returns and 251 yards on 23 punt returns.
