Cowboys To Sign Safety, Linebacker To “Futures” Deals

Justin Taplin-Ross and Baraka Atkins will soon become Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys will sign a safety and a defensive end to “futures” contracts in the next day or so, ESPN Dallas reports Tuesday.

Safety Justin Taplin-Ross and defensive end/outside linebacker, the awesomely named Baraka Atkins (pictured), will be added to the roster soon, and each has a bit of history with the team.

Taplin-Ross agreed upon a deal with Dallas following the end of the lockout last year, but failed the subsequent physical. Atkins was one of the wave of visitors who worked out for the team at Valley Ranch in the final month of the season, but was not signed until now.

A Utah product, Taplin-Ross comes without any NFL experience to speak of. Atkins, on the other hand, was drafted in the fourth round in 2007 by the Seattle Seahawks, as a defensive end. He hasn’t played since 2009, but went to camp last season with the Steelers, where he played outside linebacker--the position he will reportedly play in Dallas.
