Cowboys Sign DT Marvin Austin

The Dallas Cowboys continue to try to beef up the ranks of their defensive front.

On Monday, the team announced they signed 6 foot 2 inch, 312-pound defensive tackle Marvin Austin.

Austin, out of North Carolina, was drafted in the 2nd round (52nd overall) by the New York Giants in 2011.

A chest injury kept Austin on injured reserve during his entire rookie season.   He returned to the field in 2012 and played in eight games for the Giants where he collected five tackles and three assists.

In the final cut from training camp, the 24-year-old was released by the Giants.  He was picked up by the Dolphins on Sept. 24 and played in two games, where he added a single tackle to his career total (now 9) before being cut Oct. 15.

Terms of Marvin's deal were not disclosed.

The team said Monday they've also re-signed guard Ray Dominguez and wide receiver Jamar Newsome to the practice squad.
