Cowboys Sign Australian Punter

Tom Hornsey won the Ray Guy Award last year at Memphis

The Dallas Cowboys signed former Memphis punter Tom Hornsey on Monday to replace Cody Mandell on the roster, ESPN Dallas’s Todd Archer reports.

Mandell was waived over the weekend.

Hornsey, 25, won the Ray Guy Award as he nation’s best punter while at Memphis in 2013, and was named a consensus All-American. Prior to his college career, Hornsey played Aussie Rules Football.

Dallas, of course, has had some good luck with Australian punters in the past. Mat McBriar, who punted for the Cowboys from 2003 to 2011, was twice named to the Pro Bowl and twice named second-team All-Pro.

Chris Jones remains the projected starting punter for Dallas.
