Dallas

Cowboys Rout ‘Skins, 44-17

Dallas finishes the regular season with a 12-4 record

In a game that saw DeMarco Murray set a new franchise record for rushing yards in a season and Dez Bryant set a new franchise record for receiving touchdowns in a season on consecutive plays in the first quarter, the Dallas Cowboys won their Week 17 matchup with the Washington Redskins in convincing fashion, 44-17.

Dan Bailey opened up the scoring on the Cowboys’ first drive with a 36-yard field goal to make it 3-0. Dallas would briefly lose their lead after Robert Griffin III hit DeSean Jackson for a 69-yard touchdown pass, but they responded in a big way.

Dez Bryant caught touchdown passes of 65 and 23 yards from Tony Romo to close out the first quarter with the Cowboys ahead, 17-7. In the second quarter, Bailey hit a field goal of 32 yards and DeMarco Murray took in a nine-yard touchdown run to extend the Dallas lead to 27-7. Romo finished 22 of 34 passing for 299 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Bryant had four catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns, and DeMarco Murray ran for 100 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. It was the 12th time this season that Murray’s gone over 100 yards, another franchise record.

Before the half, Redskins kicker Kai Forbath made a 25-yard field goal to close the gap to 27-10, but the home team couldn’t maintain any real momentum.

After a scoreless third quarter, Robert Griffin III scored on a two-yard touchdown run, but it’d be all Cowboys from there on.

Bailey hit a 23-yard field goal to go a perfect three of three on the day and, with just over three minutes left, the Cowboys’ Terrell McClain stripped Griffin, allowing Anthony Spencer to score on a five-yard fumble return to essentially end it at 37-17. For good measure, Joseph Randle ripped off a 65-yard touchdown run on the first play of the Cowboys’ final offensive possession to give us the final of 44-17.

The Cowboys finish the regular season with a mark of 12-4, and with a perfect 8-0 record on the road.
