Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory has been suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
The team released the following statement Friday afternoon.
"Randy Gregory of the Dallas Cowboys has been suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2016 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. Gregory is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games."
Gregory was considered first-round talent in the 2015 NFL Draft but dropped to late in the second round after testing positive for marijuana at the NFL combine in February.
Following the Combine, Gregory insisted then he had a maturity problem, not a marijuana problem.
"I think I'm immature. I'm definitely working on that. I want to prove everyone wrong and I want to do it with this team. I think this is the best team I can do that with," he told ESPN radio in 2015.
No further statement was made available from either the Dallas Cowboys, NFL or Gregory.
