Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Building Two Developments in Prosper

Football is the focus for the Dallas Cowboys right now, but owner Jerry Jones has another major project on his plate.

He already owns developments in Allen and Frisco and now he's adding another city to the list: Prosper.

Construction is now underway on two developments in Prosper called the Gates of Prosper and Star Trail.

They’re owned by Jones’ Blue Star Land Co.

“I believe the Cowboys is a priority to him and then his real estate development,” said Prosper Mayor Ray Smith.

The $1 billion Gates of Prosper will feature 650 acres of restaurants and shopping north of State Highway 380 and Preston Road.

A few miles away, the Star Trail neighborhood will include 1,800 homes, an elementary school and three parks.

It’s right across a dirt road from the Garcia family home of 40 years.

“I think it's a good opportunity for Prosper. For us, we're not used to living in the city so we're looking to move farther up north,” said Candy Garcia.

While Garcia ready to put Prosper behind her, Mayor Smith said families to the south can't get there fast enough.

“Things are in motion and they just can't go fast enough,” Smith said.

Blue Star Land CEO Joe Hickman said the first phase of the commercial development will open sometime next fall.

Hickman said homes will be built starting in April and will go on sale next year.

He expect homes to cost between $350,000 and $800,000.
