Cowboys Notebook: October 28

*Cornerback terence Newman missed practice on Thursday with sore ribs. The injury was thought to be minor initially, but head coach Wade Phillips is reportedly concerned over Newman’s status for Sunday’s game against Jacksonville.

*Dez Bryant worked on kick returns in practice Thursday, along with regular kick returner Akwasi Owusu-Ansah and running back Felix Jones. Bryant has performed well in the role of punt returner, and coaches have expressed a desire to give Jones more opportunities in the open field.

*Rookie defensive end Sean Lissemore practiced with the first team on the kickoff unit on Thursday, and it looks increasingly likely that he will have his NFL debut on Sunday.

*Starting left guard Kyle Kosier and backup guard Montrae Holland each missed practice on Thursday with ankle and groin injuries, respectively. If they are unable to go Sunday, rookie Phil Costa would make his first career start.
