Cowboys' Lee, Witten Snubbed from NFL Pro Bowl Roster

Sean Lee and Jason Witten were left off the NFL Pro Bowl Roster.

Five Dallas Cowboys made the 2017 NFL Pro Bowl roster. Rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott join offensive lineman Tyron Smith, Zack Martin and Travis Frederick on this year's squad.

However, tight end Jason Witten and linebacker Sean Lee did not make the team. Not everyone can be selected, but these two are playing like Pro Bowlers.

Witten ranks fourth in catches and 10th in receiving yards among tight ends. It's his blocking that gets overlooked, and it's his blocking that should put him into the Pro Bowl. Washington's Jordan Reed and Carolina's Greg Olsen will represent the NFC tight ends. They are both very deserving of this distinction.

Don't feel too bad for Witten, though, because he can claim 10 Pro Bowl births and he's likely a future Hall of Famer.

Sean Lee made the Pro Bowl for the first time of his career in 2015. For now, he's not a Pro Bowler, even though he's having the best season of his career.

Carolina linebackers Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis made the team, along with Seattle's Bobby Wagner.

I understand why Wagner made it. He's a machine for the Seahawks defense. Davis is solid, but he's no Sean Lee. And Kuechly has missed the last four games while he's dealing with a concussion. For that reason, I think Lee takes Kuechly's spot because the Carolina linebacker won't want to play in a meaningless game coming off a serious concussion.

Can you make an argument for wide receiver Dez Bryant? Not really. He's shown flashes, but he's had a few games were he was merely a decoy, and decoys don't get Pro Bowls. He also missed time with a hairline fracture in his knee, which hurt his chances.

Can you make an argument for kicker Dan Bailey? Absolutely. However, Atlanta's Matt Bryant deserves it just a little bit more. Bailey made his first and only Pro Bowl in 2015.

Obviously, the Cowboys don't want anyone playing in the Pro Bowl. They want to play one week later in Super Bowl LI.
