It’s not exactly as big as the White Rock Marathon, the Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Day Parade or the annual observer of JFK’s assassination anniversary, but for the Cowboys and hopeful local players one of the most important days on the calendar is “Dallas Day.”
After the NFL Scouting Combine and hosting of 30 draft-eligible players, the Cowboys every year narrow their focus and extend their arms to some of the best football talent in DFW. It’s called “Dallas Day”, and it took place Friday at Valley Ranch.
Much more than a goodwill/PR stunt, “Dallas Day” in the past has unearthed players such as Patrick Crayton, Jacques Reeves, Phillip Tanner, Cole Beasley and Lance Dunbar.
On this year’s list of locals: Boise State running back Jay Ajayi, TCU cornerback Kevin White, Stanford receiver/kick returner Ty Montgomery, Oklahoma offensive lineman Daryl Williams and BYU receiver Ross Apo. They might not be Cowboys’ picks on draft day, but don’t be surprised to see those names show up on Dallas’ training-camp roster.
