Cowboys Meet With Alabama LB Courtney Upshaw

An outside linebacker, Upshaw is projected to go in the first round of April's draft

Whether or not this says anything about the future of Anthony Spencer in Dallas we don’t know, but the Cowboys have already had a sit-down with Alabama outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw this week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Upshaw is projected as a first round pick, which, without any firsthand knowledge of the Cowboys’ approach to the draft, makes it less likely that the Cowboys will pursue him as they tend to more pressing needs like the interior of the offensive line and the secondary.

That said, Upshaw is a beast, as well as a big fan of DeMarcus Ware, the man he’d share the field with if the Cowboys drafted him.

"With him playing down at Troy, I kind of kept up with him during his career," Upshaw said. "The way he gets after the quarterback is kind of something that I try to mold my game after, guys like him who get to the quarterback and who are relentless."

Asked if he’d prefer to play in a 3-4 system, like the one the Cowboys run, or a 4-3, Upshaw half-joked that the system of the team that drafts him is the one he’s best suited for.

"I'm a better fit for any team that wants to pick me," Upshaw said. "My strength is me being able to do whatever a team asks me to do and to do it to the best of my ability."
