Two words describe the Cowboys under head coach Jason Garrett: Mediocre. Resilient.
In a season in which just a month ago some were calling the Cowboys the best team in the NFC, they now need a heaping dose of the latter to avoid again becoming the previous. As in, produce a resilient win against the Bears Thursday or else continue another slide toward .500.
The good news: Garrett’s Cowboys have been at their best in the game after displaying their worst.
Since he took over in midseason 2010, Garrett’s Cowboys are an impressive 19-9 after a loss. Even more encouraging, they are 7-3 after a blowout loss of 10+ points. That number includes 2-0 this season, as they rebounded from 11-point losses to the 49ers and Cardinals with victories over the Titans and Jaguars.
Having lost three of five after the 6-1 start, there’s nothing to suggest the Cowboys are any longer an elite, playoff team. But there’s also strong evidence – even in the wake of the 23-point loss on Thanksgiving – to support them winning Thursday in Chicago.
