NFL Gives Cowboys Three Compensatory Draft Picks

The Cowboys now have 11 picks in this year's draft

The Dallas Cowboys have been awarded three compensatory draft picks for free agents lost last year, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas.

In all, last year, the Cowboys lost four players in free agency--tight end John Phillips, cornerback Mike Jenkins, linebacker Victor Butler and defensive end Kenyon Coleman. They added free agent linebacker Justin Durant.

Per league rules, an NFL team giving up more or better free agents than they receive in the previous year are due compensatory picks.

Dallas may get a compensatory pick next year for their loss of defensive tackle Jason Hatcher, who signed a four-year, $27.5 million contract with the Washington Redskins earlier this month.

The Cowboys now have 11 picks in the 2014 NFL Draft.
