Cowboys Cut QB Williams, OT Shugarts

The moves leave Dallas with three open roster spots going into camp

The Cowboys have waived offensive tackle J.B. Shugarts and quarterback Dalton Williams, the team announced on Wednesday, leaving the team with three open roster spots. That third spot was freed up by the release of fullback Lawrence Vickers last week.

Both players are Texas products--the state, not the school--Shugarts from Klein and Williams from Coppell.

Shugarts started three seasons at Ohio State and spent last year as a member of the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills practice squad. He was signed by Dallas back on May 29.

Williams, a standout at Stephen F. Austin, had a bit longer of a stint with Dallas than did Shugart. He was signed as an undrafted free agent shortly after the NFL Draft in April. His release leaves Tony Romo, Kyle Orton and Nick Stephens as the only three quarterbacks in the fold, but they’re expected to roll with just two QBs (Romo and Orton) on the active roster come the end of camp.
