Cowboys Add P Delbert Alvarado

Alvarado spent part of training camp with the team in 2011

With Mat McBriar still fighting to recover from offseason surgery on his plant leg, the Dallas Cowboys signed punter Delbert Alvarado on Monday.

Alvarado was originally signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent of the University of South Florida in 2010. But after attending training camp with the team, he was released in late July. Alvarado ended up spending the 2011 season with the Virginia Destroyers of the UFL.

After joining the team for the rest of OTAs, Alvarado will compete with Chris Jones, who replaced McBriar in week 17, when McBriar was finally sent to the injured reserve with a case of drop-foot.

McBriar is now a free agent.
