Cowboys Add Another Former Seahawks RB in Rod Smith

Smith went undrafted out of Ohio State last April before signing with Seattle

The Dallas Cowboys have yet another big, new running back in the person of Rod Smith, an undrafted rookie out of Ohio State who was waived by the Seattle Seahawks this week.

At 6-foot-3 and around 230, Smith went undrafted last April and ultimately signed with the Seahawks’ practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster before last week’s matchup with between the Seahawks and the Bengals, went for five yards on two carries, and was waived on Tuesday.

The Cowboys claimed him on Wednesday, the same day they worked out veterans LaMike James and Isaiah Pead. He takes the roster spot of receiver Vince Mayle, who was released Tuesday.

This isn’t the first time the Cowboys’ have gone looking for a running back in the Pacific Northwest this year. A little over a month ago, they traded for former Seahawk Christine Michael.
