Could Cowboys Use Franchise Tag on DeMarco Murray?

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones won't close the door on the idea

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told reporters this week that the team is currently leaning toward applying the franchise tag to wide receiver Dez Bryant, but made clear that nothing was set in stone.

Indeed, Jones isn’t ready to close the door on the idea of using the tag on the team’s other marquee free agent-to-be, running back DeMarco Murray. Basically, at this point, no option is off the table.

I would never rule anything out,” Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News. “Who knows what tomorrow brings? Things have a sudden way of getting kicked in and you start to get some traction on something. You go down that road and get that done. It’s dominoes.”

The Cowboys have two weeks to decide who, if anyone, they’ll franchise.

Jones will meet with Murray’s agent, Bill Johnson at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week, where the Cowboys have a strong presence to prepare for the upcoming draft and negotiate with free agents.
