Choice Looking To Get Over The Hump

Here’s what we know about the Cowboys’ running back situation: Felix Jones is the starter. That’s about it.

We’d imagine Tashard Choice will emerge from training camp with a roster spot, but he’s battling DeMarco Murray, Lonyae Miller and Phillip Tanner for carries, as, in the past, he battled with Jones and the now Chicago bound Marion Barber. With Barber gone, Choice believes the time is now to earn a bigger chunk of the workload, which is really what he’s been after since arriving in Dallas as a rookie out of Georgia Tech.

"Now it’s a time for me to actually get over the hump," Choice said, per ESPN Dallas. "People [are] tired of seeing little spurts. 'He's good enough, but why he ain't playing?' What else? I've heard, 'He can't block, he can't play special teams.' I heard a lot. That's fine. I'm just going to go out on the field and work and prove my worth and that’s all I can do and be the best Tashard I can be. That's what I'm going to do."

Head coach Jason Garrett agrees that Choice is in a sort of position battle, but wouldn’t say if he was in any more of a battle than anyone else in the locker room, a frustratingly predictable response.

"I think everybody is fighting for their job on a daily basis," Garrett said. "Everyone's competing to make this football team, competing to start on the team and then competing for what their role is. So we try to create those environments throughout our team."
