Checking In With The Titans

*In a hilarious turn of events, the NFL fined Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil $40,000 on Tuesday, for flipping an official “the bird”--yes that bird--in Sunday’s loss to the Broncos. Cecil was reacting to what he saw as an erroneous roughing the passer call, and television cameras caught the gesture in all its offensive glory. Cecil has since apologized for his actions.

But perhaps there is a trend developing in Tennessee:

Last season, the Titans’ owner Bud Adams was fined $250,000 for giving the ever-feared double-bird to Bills fans from his owners’ suite.

*The Titans will be without defensive end Derrick Morgan on Sunday, and indeed the rest of the season. The 16th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Morgan suffered a torn ACL in Sunday’s loss, the latest blow to an injury-riddled defensive front for Tennessee. The team signed veteran defensive tackle Amon Gordon to shore up the group on Tuesday.

*At times last season, Titans’ running back Chris Johnson looked unstoppable. The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos have proven that, this season, that’s not the case, holding the dynamic Johnson to 34 and 53 yards rushing, respectively.

This isn’t to say Johnson isn’t dangerous--he is. But he does appear to be stoppable.

Johnson comes into Dallas as the league’s sixth-leading rusher.
