Cassel Looking to Finish Starting Stint “On a Winning Note”

Sunday will mark Matt Cassel's last foreseeable start for the Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Matt Cassel knows Tony Romo will be back next week.

That would make this week’s matchup with the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay Cassel’s last foreseeable opportunity to earn a win for the Cowboys.

“Obviously, Tony is coming back next week, and when he’s gets back, he’s back,” Cassel told the team’s official website. “But at the same time, I would love to finish on a winning note and obviously teams, we’d all like to win, so again all of our focus has gone into this week.”

Cassel is currently 0-3 as the Cowboys’ starter, the same record as Brandon Weeden when he was replaced. But Jason Garrett believes Cassel has improved with each start, and there’s no arguing that his last game was his best as a Cowboy, with 299 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception against the Eagles.

“I think Matt’s done a good job for us,” he said. “Unfortunately, we haven’t won the games he’s started, but I think there’s a lot of positive things that he’s done for our team.”
