Buehler Will Be A Game-Time Decision

Cowboys’ kicker David Buehler will be a game-time decision for tonight’s home opener against the Washington Redskins with a groin injury, though he is officially listed as questionable. Buehler will attempt a few kickoffs when he arrives at Cowboys Stadium today; Dallas will make their decision depending on how he feels.

If Buehler is unable to play, rookie place kicker Dan Bailey will take over Buehler’s kickoff duties against Washington. Bailey is 3-of-4 on field goal attempts this season and a perfect 6-of-6 on extra points.

After serving as the Cowboys full-time kicker in 2010, Buehler has returned to his role as kickoff specialist--which he did with success in his rookie season. While Buehler obviously has the leg to fill this role well, his penchant for trying to make tackles on special teams increases the threat of injury.

"That's just the nature of it," said head coach Jason Garrett, per ESPN Dallas. "We don't get too caught up in the whys of it. We just have to deal with the reality of the situation. We'll see him on a day to day basis as well and see if he's able to go on Monday night."
