Bryce Harper Tweets Love For Cowboys, Angers Washington DC

The Washington Nationals prospect made clear on Twitter this week that he's no fan of the Washington Redskins

Washington Nationals wunderkind prospect Bryce Harper is catching some flack these days, but that’s nothing new, really. Harper, never short on bravado, has really been the target of some degree of criticism since he was drafted first overall by the Nats--criticism that’s spurred on by incidents like the one last year, where he blew a kiss to an opposing pitcher following a home run.

What is new is the reason for this wave of criticism, which involves your Dallas Cowboys. In a very LeBron-esque move, Harper recently Tweeted his love of the Cowboys, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Yankees and Duke Blue Devils--yep, he’s one of THOSE guys--which wouldn’t be so bad, if it weren’t for the little issue of a bitter rivalry between those Cowboys and the football team up in DC.

We’ll let Deron Snyder of the Washington Post explain the uproar:

“That’s what happened a couple of weeks ago when Harper re-affirmed his love for non-D.C. teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Lakers and Duke Blue Devils. ‘I love my Nationals, but im not a Redskins, Georgetown, Wizards, nor a Capitals fan!’ he tweeted. A later tweet read: ‘Cowboys cowboys cowboys for life!!! I hate those redskins! Hah.’”

While we’re no great fan of Harper’s, we can’t help but smile a bit at the idea of the future of the Washington Nationals actively rooting against the Washington Redskins. So Cowboys Cowboys Cowboys for life, indeed, young Mr. Harper.
