Boxing Legend Oscar De La Hoya Visits Jerry Jones, Cowboys Camp

Oscar De La Hoya stopped by Oxnard to promote a fight and motivate the Dallas Cowboys.

Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya strategically swung through Dallas Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, California on Tuesday. The Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO joined forces with Jerry Jones to host a fight at AT&T Stadium on September 17 between Canelo Alvarez and Liam Smith.

Tickets are still on sale and De La Hoya and Jones took the opportunity to promote the fight, and take in football practice in the owner's suite. Jones is particularly excited about showcasing Alvarez after watching his last fight in person in Las Vegas.

"I couldn't sleep thinking about what it might be if he came to Texas. One of the neat things is the basic complimentary interest that we have with out fan base. When we had the [Manny] Pacquiao fights there, I got more letters from our fans, our Cowboy fans, talking about how much they appreciated boxing and having it there in Texas," said Jones.

"Of course with Canelo and his following, we'll be able to have that great Hispanic fan base, that we are so proud of and appreciate so much. Since we've announced this fight, our ticket sales are tremendous. And I know where a lot of where it's coming from, that great Hispanic fan base that we have that are anxious to see Canelo perform right there in front of them," said Jones.

De La Hoya spoke with the team after practice and encouraged them to "fight" until the bitter end. The "Golden Boy" is thrilled to help host this event at AT&T Stadium and promote the boxing card featuring Alvarez.

"It's the best stadium in the country and Canelo is the best fighter on the planet today. And when you have the best and the best, you can't go wrong," said De La Hoya.
