Bears GM Gushes Over DeCamillis

Joe DeCamillis left Dallas to become the Bears special teams coordinator this offseason

The Dallas Cowboys didn’t seem to kick up much fuss over special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis departing from Valley Ranch after four seasons with the team this offseason, but the Chicago Bears are absolutely thrilled that they were able to land the man widely known as Joe D.

Not that this is surprising. The high esteem in which the Bears brass hold DeCamillis is reflected by the fact that he was given an interview for the head coaching position before eventually coming over under the title of specials teams coordinator/assistant head coach.

"I was extremely surprised and felt very good that we were able to get him on this staff," said Bears general manager Phil Emery, via ESPN Dallas. "Obviously, we had lost Dave (Toub). He had moved to the Chiefs. And we interviewed Joe D. for the head coaching position, so I felt very good about him as a coach and glad to have him."

DeCamillis, who was replaced in Dallas by Rich Bisaccia, isn’t the only Cowboy cast-off to find a new home in Chicago. Ousted running backs coach Skip Peete went to the Bears as well, after he was fired in early January.
