Another Cowboys Defender Goes to Tampa

First it was Bruce Carter, then shortly thereafter it was Henry Melton, and now according to multiple reports, Sterling Moore is signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the third Cowboys free agent to sign with the Bucs from the defensive side of the ball.

Lovie Smith, of course, is the Bucs' head coach and has close ties to Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, and they both run the same defensive scheme.

While Carter's loss was a tough one, it was almost more surprising that the Cowboys let Moore get away when they could've had him for cheap as some nice depth in the cornerback corps, which might be the Cowboys' biggest glaring hole defensively this offseason.

Moore was a nice piece to the puzzle last year, especially after the underperforming Morris Claiborne went down with injury. Moore led the team in pass breakups, despite not having an interception — a stat that also applies to highly paid cornerback Brandon Carr.
