Andy Jones Looking to Make Jump from Jacksonville U to NFL

Jones was one of 14 undrafted free agents signed by the Cowboys this spring

It’s a massive jump from Jacksonville University to the NFL, but undrafted receiver Andy Jones is intent on seeing if he can make it.

“It doesn’t matter where you came from if you come in here to work,” Jones said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I feel blessed to be here, so I’m not going to lose out on that.

Jones got a signing bonus of $15,000 when he was signed by the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent, which is a lot for a UFA—so much that it tells you something about how the team feels about the small school receiver’s physical traits. He was also one of just five undrafted free agents with a “draftable” grade among the 14 they ultimately brought in.

“He has a lot of physical traits,” said Cowboys receivers coach Derek Dooley. “The biggest thing with him was he came from a I-AA program, so he didn’t get a lot of the attention, didn’t quite have the production, didn’t have the exposure, probably didn’t have the development in a lot of ways. So we’re excited to see where he can go from here.”
