Coach Wade Can't Sleep at 0-2

It’s been a rough two weeks for the fellows down at Valley Ranch. An ugly loss to Washington on the road and an uglier loss to the Bears at home have those Dallas Cowboys scrambling to come to terms with an 0-2 record, and the very real possibility that after Sunday, they could go into the bye week without a win.

For a team that entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations, this would be unthinkable. Only three teams in NFL history have started the season 0-3 and gone on to make the playoffs, meaning, as much as we hate to draw premature conclusions, the chance that the Cowboys will dig themselves a hole from which they can’t return is an increasingly real one.

Head coach Wade Phillips knows this, and it’s making him sick. Not as in the expression “it’s making me sick,” but seriously, literally-- Phillips is sick. He can’t sleep. Or eat. Or, for that matter, take any time off as his team prepares for the 2-0 Houston Texans in week three, a potentially crucial game to this much hyped season.

“You can't sleep at night. You're almost physically sick. You're sick to your stomach after the ballgame. I am right now,” Phillips said, per ESPN Dallas. "...You have to analyze what you're doing, work at what you're doing. If it takes trying harder or doing harder, that's what I'm going to try to do.”
