Amukamara Visiting Cowboys After All

We thought it was a bit strange that Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara, a projected top ten pick in this month’s NFL draft, was absent from the list of pre-draft visitors coming to Valley Ranch, and for good reason. LSU’s Patrick Peterson, the only corner rated higher than Amukamara in the 2011 class, will likely be gone by the time Dallas picks at ninth, and the secondary is an area that certainly could use some addressing.

Indeed, if it were true that the Cowboys weren’t so much as meeting Amukamara before the draft, it would have been very strange. But according to one report, that’s not the case.

ESPN Dallas’ Calvin Watkins reported today that Amukamara will visit the Cowboys next week.

Just what this means is impossible to tell. While Amukamara seems a good fit in Dallas, the team’s offensive lineman-heavy slate of visitors at Valley Ranch seem to suggest the team is more interested in addressing the line in the first round. Many of the mock drafts that once had Dallas taking Amukamara at ninth overall now have them taking USC tackle Tyron Smith--and Florida guard Mike Pouncey Tweeted this week, after a visit with the team, that he’d be shocked if he weren’t in silver and blue later this month.
