In his weekly show during the football season on KTCK 1310-The Ticket with The Musers, legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback and A-team FOX analyst Troy Aikman had some interesting thoughts on Thursday regarding all of the recent coaching changes that have taken place at Valley Ranch.
Aikman also said that it was clear that the team's head coach, and his former backup in Dallas, Jason Garrett hasn't had much say in all of the changes after owner Jerry Jones said things would get "uncomfortable" following their Week 17 playoffs-or-bust loss against the Washington Redskins.
“That’s essentially what happened, or at least that’s the way it looks,” Aikman told The Musers. “Jerry comes out and says there are going to be a lot of changes this off-season and everyone’s going to be uncomfortable. I didn’t hear a comment from Jason Garrett with regards to that. I didn’t hear him say that during his post-game press conference or postseason press conference."
Aikman went on to say he wondered whether things would be going the same if the Cowboys had won one, if not both, of the Week 17 all-or-nothing games they have played in the past two seasons — both losses to the Giants and Redskins — that would have resulted in NFC East championships for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys have made several coaching changes in recent weeks. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan is out. Monte Kiffin is in. Running backs coach Skip Peete is out. Sam Gash is about to be in. Rod Marinelli was brought in to the coach the defensive line, and they are also looking to hire new special teams and tight ends coaches.
That's a lot of turnover, but Aikman isn't sure it will matter.
“I haven’t seen anything up to this point that’s been done that makes me believe that this team is going to be better based on the changes that have happened within staff," Aikman said.
