With Joseph Randle out of the league (and his mind) and Lance Dunbar in limbo after major surgery, the Cowboys need a reliable veteran backup running back to Darren McFadden.
Matte Forte? Absolutley. Alfred Morris? Perhaps. Lamar Miller? Hmm. DeMarco Murray? Wait, what the what?! Nope.
Even in the face of a 4-12 season when two of their projected top three backs didn’t finish the season on the active roster, the Cowboys were right to pass on Murray’s hefty price last spring.
Murray proved he wasn’t worth the $8 million paid him by the Eagles.
I mean, sure, on paper it would be a nice reunion. Murray’s the perfect fit for Dallas’ offense, just as he was so imperfect for whatever Chip Kelly was trying to do in Philadelphia. The Eagles are likely to shop Murray, but the Cowboys should listen only at a drastically discounted price.
No way they should have paid to keep Murray at that price. And no way they should pay it to bring him back.
The Cowboys have lots of holes to fill. Breaking the bank for former one-season wonders isn’t a smart way to do business.
