Men have wondered about them for years. They're curious, yet frightened. They've always wanted to know what it would be like, but the reality of making it happen seemed unlikely. Yes, we're talking about mustaches.
Now Movember may be over, but on Long Island, there's still some growing happening with Mustaches for Kids.
Long Island's Chapter of Mustaches for Kids (M4K) was started by four teachers looking to raise money for a good cause. When they came upon M4K, they knew any organization that told them, "Hey, your mustache probably won't look like Tom Selleck's," would be a good fit for them. Afterall, all they had to do was grow mustaches, have a couple drinks, and donate money to a charity that’s going to help children. Really, how hard could that be?
Five years later, the group has not only grown mustaches, but also has grown in size with 110 growers in the 2011 season. And with a tremendous number of volunteers who have raised over $125,000 to this day, the Fifth Annual Stache Bash at the Inn in Long Beach, NY should be one for the books, with games, costume contests, raffles, prizes, drinks, and some good ol' mustache fun!
All the money raised this season will be donated to the Pediatric Cancer Care Center at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. This fund helps families who are having trouble paying for their children’s cancer treatment.
There’s an English proverb that says, “A man without a mustache is like a cup of tea without sugar.” Just as sugar sweetens the tea, so do the mustaches that sweeten these men's lives, and hopefully, the lives of those around them. Join M4K this weekend at the Inn in Long Beach, NY from 6PM to 10PM, and “Do it for the Kids!”
