1/13: Chasing the Dream

AMERICAN NIGHTMARE: Ever pore over copies of Dwell and fantasize about building the perfect house from scratch? The fictional Jim and Muriel Blandings could relate, as they uprooted their family from New York to make a home in Connecticut and do just that. Benefit from the comedic pitfalls they find and compare our era of habitat-making to theirs in Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948), starring Cary Grant, at a screening and discussion hosted by the Dallas Center for Architecture. 7:30PM. $10.

SIREN SPIN: One of our top ten favorite local music stories of the last decade is a 2005 feature about female DJs called "She's Got Skills" (Shannon Sutlief, Dallas Observer). Five years later, "Cyberena Flux" Steiner hasn't welcomed a gaggle of girl-peers to the boards, but she does rep tech-heavy industrial and dance beats at the Cavern's Girls Night Out with an all-femme lineup starting at 10PM.

BUBBLEGUM BELLE: Summer Ames is DFW's resident Apple Computer, Inc. commercial, with bubbling vocal lines and curtsy endings that landed her in the Independent Music Awards "Love Song" category. See her at Opening Bell Coffee with Mary Walker, 8PM.
