Go Red for Women in North Texas!

Take action today!

Choose Red! Wear red lipstick or a red dress. Eat a red apple, tomato, or cherry. NBC 5 invites you to make a pledge to let February be the month that you begin living and maintaining a more heart-healthy lifestyle. Promise to do something heart-healthy for ones you love.

February is filled with educational events and activities, and is geared to educate everyone, regardless of age, in the local community about the effects of heart disease and stroke. Go Red for Women is nationally sponsored by Macy’s and Merck, and locally sponsored in North Texas by Texas Health Resources and Community Coffee.

Women have been fighting heart disease individually and together as part of the Go Red for Women movement since 2004. As we begin our 10th year, more than 627,000 lives have been saved. Close to 420,000 women will lose their lives from heart disease this year. But the fight is far from over.

Why Should You Take Action?

Heart disease is still our No. 1 killer; it affects more women than men. Heart disease is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined, and African American and Hispanic women have a higher risk of heart disease and stroke risk factors.

Using the American Heart Association’s research and resources, Go Red for Women educates and connects hundreds of thousands of women and offers tools to help women make lifesaving choices -- choices to protect their health and reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke.
