Fort Worth BookFest 2017

You will not want to miss the inaugural Fort Worth BookFest, a free, family friendly, all day festival, which will highlight nationally and locally known authors of all cultural backgrounds, on Saturday, October 14, at Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus in Fort Worth.  Organizers of the cross-cultural and community-driven BookFest say, “Our purpose is to raise awareness of the transformative power of literacy.”

The BookFest is presenting something for everyone -- activities to engage, entertain, and educate all visitors.  Authors will be there with books to sell, sign, and discuss.  Artists and artisans will display and sell their works. The BookFest also offers demonstrations from fashionistas on how to repurpose clothing and fashion colorful strips of cloth into stunning headwear for women and men.

Organizers are especially proud of the Children’s Square, which is a collaboration with the Fort Worth Library and the Botanical Research Institute of Texas. Mayor Betsy Price, Congressman Marc Veasey and other celebrity readers will read aloud to the younger visitors and Bella the Begonia will read and interact with the youngest.  Johnny Villarreal will present a workshop on Stop Motion Animation for the youth attending.  Interactive and discovery stations abound all on Level 4 of Trinity River Campus.

There are thought provoking, conversation starting panel discussions for youth and adults including a Business of Writing series covering all angles of the creative process, information on publishing and the difference between comic books and graphic novels and information to help parents support child literacy.  There are workshops to help professional and fledgling writers with proven techniques to expand their creativity for problem solving and artistic projects, preserving family history, and developing poetry SLAMs, and many more workshops.

The Fort Worth BookFest is a strategic collaboration with Max Rodriguez, founder of the nationally recognized Harlem Book Fair and publisher of the critically acclaimed QBR/The Black Book Review, a New York Times-like review of current works by authors.

Fort Worth BookFest has program partnerships with BRIT (Botanical Research Institute of Texas), the City of Fort Worth, TCU, TCC, and TWU, among others.  In addition, Bookfest is sponsored by Linebarger Attorneys at Law, Best Maid Products, the North Texas Cluster of The Links, Incorporated, NBC 5 and other corporate and media partners.
