Join NBC 5 and The Cowtown Marathon at the 10th Anniversary of the C.A.L.F. Run on Saturday, October 5, at the Coyote Drive-In Theater located at 223 NE 4th St, Fort Worth, TX 76164. Lace up your running shoes, grab the children and the entire family for the 1 mile, 5K or 10K distance run/walk. It all starts at 7:30 a.m.
C.A.L.F. stands for Children’s Activities for Life and Fitness, and as part of The Cowtown Marathon’s mission to promote a lifelong love of fitness, they host this short distance race each fall to kick-off the school training season and the CALF program. The CALF program helps tens of thousands of area children lace up and cross countless finish lines including The Cowtown on Saturday, February 29, 2020.
The dedicated staff and volunteers visit approximately 400 schools across North Texas annually, training students in proper running technique and educating them about resting heart rate, the importance of hydration, proper nutrition and living an active lifestyle.
The CALF program started in 2009 and it includes a school grant program. The staff identifies economically disadvantaged children, fits them properly with a new pair of running shoes, and provides grants to make entry fees more affordable.
Their intent is to make training and running a 5K race a reality.
This year, The Cowtown celebrates the 10th anniversary of The Cowtown C.A.L.F. Run. This race is truly for all ages and all skill levels. Most of those who register are youth and it serves to kick-off for the school involvement, but adults are always welcome, for they are the key support of Cowtown’s mission and CALF programming.
The CALF program also promotes children’s health. It is a small race, but it attracts school teams, including a few JROTC squads from FWISD High Schools. It’s a good way to build camaraderie and welcome the FALL running season. Register Today!
