Skate Panther Island ICE thru Jan. 19

Fort Worth's only outdoor ice rink

There will be ice in North Texas, but this time it's a good thing.

NBC 5 and Trinity River Vision Authority invite you to bring your family and friends to the second annual Panther Island ICE, Fort Worth’s outdoor ice skating rink.

The outdoor rink, which is 50 percent larger this year, is located at the Coyote Drive-In on 4th Street.

About 150 students from Nash Elementary School earned a chance to test out the ice skating rink Thursday, a day before it opened to the public, after being voted a national Blue Ribbon School.

Fifth graders Abigail Padilla and Brian Oropeda said they were excited to try it out, but a little scared because they had never skated before.

No matter your experience level, all are welcome to join the public skate and to skate in the open air to the sounds of seasonal music — no matter the weather.

"We had some warm days last year, but we kept it open and going," said TRVA Program and Development Manager Shanna Cate.

Panther Island ICE is open seven days a week beginning Nov. 21 and will run through Jan. 19, 2015. Skating is $11 and the parking is free.
