Winter Weather Hits Parts of Texas

Highs across much of Texas were expected only to reach the 30s and 40s on Monday with a chance of rain in some areas, the National Weather Service says.

In the Dallas area, highs were expected in the upper 30s with cloudy skies. After midnight Monday, a 20 percent chance of light rain was expected.

Wind chill values could make temperatures feel below freezing in the Panhandle where a high near 40 and low around 30 is expected in the Amarillo area. Wind gusts could reach 40 mph under partly sunny skies there.

Skies were forecast to be cloudy in Central Texas with high and low temperatures around 40. The Austin and San Antonio areas had a 20 percent chance of light rain.

There was a 50 percent chance of rain around Houston and Galveston. Cloudy skies were in the forecast for both cities with wind gusts as high as 30 mph possible around Galveston at night. Temperatures in the Houston area were expected to hover around 40, while the high around Galveston could reach the lower 60s.

Sunny weather was forecast for West Texas with a high near 60 around El Paso and in the lower 40s around the Midland-Odessa area. Lows in the 30s were possible throughout.
