Tropical Storm Don Forms

The fourth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season has formed. Tropical storm Don is east of the Windward Islands moving west at 18 mph.

Maximum sustained wind speeds are 50 mph with higher gusts. The storm may strengthen slightly as it moves through an area of low wind shear.

Tropical Storm Don isn't expected to become a hurricane and weakening is expected as Don moves across the southeastern Caribbean Sea Wednesday.

Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Tropical Storm watches are in effect for Barbados, St. Lucia and Bonaire.

Don will bring rainfall totals of 3-6 inches. The biggest threats from the rains will be flash floods and mudslides. Mountainous areas are most at risk.

Tropical Storm Don could potentially make a landfall in northwestern Venezuela late in the week, then dissipate. It does not appear that the storm will make it into the Gulf of Mexico and impact Texas.
