Storms Cause Flooding and Fires in Fort Worth

Heavy storms on Saturday caused street flooding in North Texas. Dozens of people are homeless after lightning started an apartment fire in Fort Worth.

NBC 5 viewer Jayme Rodriguez took pictures of at least two cars surrounded by deep water along Hulen Street, just south of I-30 in Fort Worth.

An apartment in the 2300 block of Ridgmar Plaza in West Fort Worth displaced dozens of residents. Fire investigators believe a lightning strike started the fire.

Another house fire was reported near Highway 183 and Bryan Irvin near the Ridglea Country Club Estates.

ONCOR reported 9,000 customers without power across North Texas because of the storms.

The rain was so heavy it caused the National Weather Service to issue Flood Advisories for Tarrant, Kaufman and Fannin Counties on Saturday evening.

NBC 5 Meteorologist Remeisha Shade said the showers were part of a big weather pattern forming over North Texas.

"A cold front pushing across DFW helped to kick off some scattered afternoon and evening storms dumping heavy rain over parts of DFW Saturday," said Shade.

The official rain totals from Saturday:

DFW Airport - Trace

Dallas Love Field - .07"

Fort Worth Meacham Airport - .80"

Texas Christian University - 1.06"

Waxahachie - .31"

Shade forecasted more possible rain on Sunday. "Low storm chances will stick around for Sunday although most of the day is expected to remain dry and a bit cooler."
