Holiday Events Canceled, Postponed Due to Winter Storm

    A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for much of North Texas from 12 p.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday. Due to the threat of severe winter weather, several North Texas events are being rescheduled or canceled ahead of the storm.

    There have been several school districts and churches announcing delays and closings for both Thursday and Friday. Information on those closings can be found here on our school closings page.

    • ALL - The TRE's Winter Whistler will not run on Dec. 7 due to weather. Other TRE trains are expected to keep a normal schedule.  The Winter Whistler will return to normal service on Dec. 14 and Dec. 21.
    • Aledo - The city's 36th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair and 13th Annual Christmas Tyme in Aledo have been postponed to Dec. 14.
    • Arlington - Arlington's Holiday Lights Parade schedules for Saturday, Dec. 7 has been canceled.
    • Arlington - The first Lego League Qualifier scheduled for Dec. 7 at UT Arlington has been canceled. Teams will be contacted with further information.
    • Arlington - 36th Annual Don Zetnick Arlington Winer Run scheduled for Dec. 7 has been postponed until 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28 at The MAC at UTA.
    • Benbrook - The city's Santa pictures, Christmas Tree Lighting and Fireworks show scheduled for Friday and Saturday, are being pushed back one week.  The Benbrook Firefighters Association's Pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus will now be held on Friday, Dec. 13, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Benbrook Community Center. The Christmas Tree Lighting and Fireworks show will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. at the community center.
    • Burleson - Due to the forecast, the city is canceling the tree lighting and fireworks show scheduled for Dec. 7.  The events will not be rescheduled and the fireworks will be saved for July 4, 2014.  UPDATE: Breakfast with Santa at the BRiCk has been postponed until 7 a.m. Dec. 14.
    • Carrollton - Rosemeade Recreation Center Member Appreciation Day scheduled for Dec. 7 has been canceled and will be rescheduled. The Carrollton Centennial Time Capsule Ceremony scheduled for Dec. 7 at Carrollton Senior Center has been canceled and rescheduled for Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. at Carrollton Senior Center.
    • Celeste - Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament at Celeste is canceled.
    • Cleburne - The Christmas Parade scheduled for Friday has been canceled.
    • Dallas - Children's Medical Center Holiday Parade, originally scheduled for Dec. 7, has been canceled.
    • Dallas - City Lights Movie Nights & Photos with Santa, scheduled for Friday, canceled due to weather.
    • Dallas - DART's annual "Stuff a Bus" event is being moved from Dec. 6 to Dec. 13. Read more here.
    • Dallas - Fair Park Holiday has been canceled.
    • Dallas - The Light Up Lee Park event has been canceled.  The trees will still be lit, but a formal lighting ceremony is not being rescheduled.
    • Dallas - Pet Expo at Fair Park, scheduled for Saturday Dec. 7 at the Tower Building, has been canceled.
    • Dallas - MetroPCS Dallas Marathon on as well as the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon Health & Fitness Expo for Friday and Saturday cancelled.
    • Dallas - Reliant Lights Your Holidays at the AT&T Performing Arts Center moved to Friday, Dec. 13.
    • Dallas - Texas Ballet Theater's performance of The Nutcracker at Winspear Opera House was canceled. Exchanges for another performance will be allowed.
    • Dallas - The Dallas Symphony Orchestra's Christmas Celebration concert scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6 has been canceled.
    • Duncanville - Christmas Parade canceled and will not be rescheduled. The Tree Lighting is being postponed until Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
    • Ennis - Christmas Parade of Lights scheduled for Thursday is being moved to Monday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.  The Ennis Lions football playoff game against Mesquite Poteet, that was originally scheduled for Friday in Allen, has also been rescheduled.  The game will now be played Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. at Dallas ISD's Kincaide Stadium.
    • Farmers Branch - Christmas Tree Lighting postponed until 7 p.m. Dec. 13.
    • Farmersville - Varsity Girls Basketball Tournament is canceled.
    • Fort Worth - Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis on Dec. 7 is canceled.
    • Fort Worth - Christmas in the Stockyards is rescheduled for Dec. 14.
    • Fort Worth - "Santa is Coming to Lake Country" event on Dec. 7 postponed until Dec. 14 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    • Fort Worth - Luncheon of Mary Isham Keith Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at Ridglea Country Club on Dec. 7 canceled.
    • Fort Worth - Sen. Ted Cruz's chamber luncheon at the Petroleum Club scheduled for Dec. 6 is being rescheduled for Jan. 17.
    • Fort Worth - The Cystic Fibrosis Stair Clim scheduled for Dec. 7 has been postponed. he alernate date has not been confirmed, information will be posted on FortWorth.CFF.org/climb
    • Garland - The city is postponing Christmas on the Square until Dec. 12.  The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with the tree lighting taking place at 7 p.m.  All of the traditional activities associated with the event are still taking place on the new day.
    • Granbury - Candlelight Tour postponed until Dec. 14-15.
    • Grand Prairie - The city has canceled the tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 5, the candle light memorial service on Dec. 7 and the Grand Prairie Farmers Market on Dec. 7.  They have postponed the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day until Dec. 14.
    • Grapevine - Parade of Lights is postponed, a new date has not been announced.
    • Grapevine - Pancake Breakfast with Santa at Fire Station #1 has been canceled.
    • Grapevine - The Grapevine Vintage Railroad’s North Pole Express®, the Grapevine Visitors Shuttle, First Friday at Nash Farm, Grapevine Opry, Christmas on Main activities, Settlement to City Museum activities, International Christmas Market, Photos with Santa at the North Pole Express General Store, Le Theatre de Marionette’s "North Pole Texas" and the Grapevine Historical Museum have all been canceled for Friday.     • Hurst - North Pointe Baptist Church's Christmas Celebration scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 is canceled and is rescheduled for Dec. 15.
    • Irving - The city has not yet made a decision on the Holiday Extravaganza, but is expected to do so before Friday.  As of this writing, the parade is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Friday and is followed by the tree lighting at 5:30 p.m.
    • Joshua - The North Texas Tollway Authority and Granite Construction community meeting to talk about progress of the Chisholm Trail Parkway project in Johnson County has been canceled. It was scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 at Loflin Middle School.
    • Keller - Holly Days is being postponed until 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10.
    • Mansfield - The city is rescheduling its tree lighting ceremony and Hometown Holidays Parade for Saturday, Dec. 14.
    • McKinney - The SPCA of Texas is canceling the Santa Paws event scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 8.  At this time, there are no plans to reschedule the event.
    • Mesquite - Christmas in the Park is being rescheduled to Dec. 13-14.  The opening ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. that Friday.
    • Midlothian - The city has canceled its Holiday Light-Up Parade, Polar Express that was scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7. The city will send out a notification if an alternate date is chosen.
    • Murphy - The city is rescheduling Christmas in the Park from Thursday to Wednesday, Dec. 11.
    • Richardson - The city has canceled its 42nd Annual Christmas Parade scheduled to begin Saturday, Dec. 7 at 9 a.m. Ice on the parade route was too hazardous for everyone involved. Richardson's Santa Village is also closed Saturday and Sunday. It will be open next week beginning on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.
    • Sansom Park - Christmas Parade and Fireworks Show rescheduled for Dec. 14.
    • Whitt - The Whitt Community Chili Dinner/Auction Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7, has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later time.

     

    • Durant, Oklahoma - Choctaw Casino Resort has canceled its Deadliest Catch meet and greet scheduled for Dec. 6 It'll be rescheduled for March.
